What Is Religion? |

Religion, as defined by the Bible, is this:
Pure religion and undefiled before God and the Father is this, To visit the fatherless and widows in their affliction, and to keep himself unspotted from the world. James 1:27 (KJV)
Also look to this preceding verse:
If any man among you seem to be religious, and bridleth not his tongue, but deceiveth his own heart, this mans religion is vain. James 1:26 (KJV)
At this point it is clear, religion is doing the right thing in God’s eyes and your heart, without bragging, without ulterior motives, but out of pure love for God. The fruits of your love will show without help of your mouth. I know this may seem harsh, but truth is truth. The mouth of way too many Christians is why the world can do without “religion” from Christians today. Too many people for centuries have talked a “holier than thou” life to sinners, without realizing that they themselves where sinners saved by the blood of Jesus. The same blood that would put that sinner on the same highway to Heaven that they supposed their self to be traveling.
Here are some dictionary definitions of religion: · people’s beliefs and opinions concerning the existence, nature, and worship of a deity or deities, and divine involvement in the universe and human life · a particular institutionalized or personal system of beliefs and practices relating to the divine · a set of strongly-held beliefs, values, and attitudes that somebody lives by · an object, practice, cause, or activity that somebody is completely devoted to or obsessed by
I would urge you to follow the definition of James as opposed to the worlds definition. The term “get religion” should only apply to you getting a personal relationship with Christ. |
